Fast Search Engine Indexing

October 25, 2008

One of the largest issues people face who launch new websites are “getting the website indexed”. Now, I am not talking about the search engine ranking, rather the actual indexing of a new site or blog. When a website is not indexed, no traffic will arrive via search engines, yet many new webmasters find themselves frustrated with the time it can take for the search engines to index a new site.

So, I wanted to share with you a few tips that have helped me over the years with getting indexed by search engines much faster. Keep in mind that there is no guaranteed method of getting indexed by Google fast, these are just some things I have found to be beneficial in getting my newly launched sites indexed.

Quick Index Tip #1- When your new site launches, avoid going out and getting 100 link partners a day! What? I thought the more link partners a website had the better the ranking?

While that is true, a newly launched website will never have 100’s of links pointing in without some type of black hat SEO tactics and you can bet the search engines know this! Instead of seeking out a huge number of links, build natural links over weeks and months.

Google knows that quality link partners are not developed over-nite, so do not waste your time trying to fool them! Don’t forget that quality over quantity is needed for search engine placement!

Quick Index Tip #2- Start using a blog platform to new sites. There are many reasons not just the fast WordPress makes a great CMS. The main reason I say this is because when you use a blogging platform such as WordPress, each time you create a new post, the search engines are sent a ping.

I have launched 2 new blogs within the last few weeks and both were indexed by Yahoo the next day without any submission service. This was due from the blog pinging the search engines to let them know new content was published.

Now, you must also ping with care! If your blog is set up to ping a list of search engines, do not go and manually ping yourself or use 10 different ping services to send a ping of the same content. This will only cause a red flag. Blogs that are caught pinging servers over and over can actually be penalized and shut down! So, make sure to ping with care!

Quick Index Tip #3- Create a sitemap and submit it to Google vis the webmaster tools. I have added sitemaps to Google with just a few pages and within 24-48 hours all pages were indexed by Google! Creating a sitemap is one of the first steps I take when a new site is launched!

Do you have any other tips that have worked for you in the past for getting indexed by Google or search engines fast?

    Hi Bruno,
Using site maps are very important as they help the search engines discover all of your content. A sitemap can be added to any website or blog!

    Hi Dennis,
I use The Google SiteMap generator that automatically updates Google with every change!

Apart from submitting the sitemap, what I usually do is to link from one of my blog with PR3 and above and click on the link to send the signal to Google which it will cross check to see if it’s in the index. If not, it will send its robot to crawl the site and usually in the next 24 hours the new site will be indexed.

Of course, using WordPress has its own advantage as search engines just loves it. I can’t stress further on the use of it.

    1. Although this sounds logical has anyone done any testing to prove or disprove this.

    2. I agree, WP is probably the best CMS to use. I can’t really fault it except it can be a pain when there are database problems. Not many people understand the back end enough to fix them.

3.Again Google recommends using a sitemap and WP can handle ths for you so no reason not to do this.

I don’t advise you submit the sitemap, just add a link to it on your home page. I’m doing it on my blog’s footer, it works great!
