5 Things to Look For in a Pay Per Click Search Engine
November 18, 2008
Once you have your site up and running, one of the fastest ways to market it would be pay per click marketing. PPC is one of the best ways to get customers fast.
There are several search engines that offer Pay Per Click marketing, however they all are not created equal! Before you jump in, make sure you find a good pay per click search engine by considering several elements.
Five Qualities of a Good Pay per Click Search Engine
1. Credibility
Good pay per click search engines are credible. They have a reputation for honest dealings and real results.
Unfortunately, there are pay per click search engines that pull you in with promises of visitors but offer very little in conversion rates. Some of these sites employ backhanded methods to get people to click on links and drive up costs without driving up sales. If you have seen the ads “Get paid to click”, you probably have some idea of what I am talking about. Credibility goes a long way in terms of making or losing money on your pay per click campaigns. Before purchasing clicks from search engines, investigate them by searching for forums, checking consumer reports and reading reviews before you buy.
2. High Volume of Users
It won’t do you much good to pay for clicks on a search engine few people use for their searches. Stick to the search engines that are used by the majority of people to maximize your profits. Yahoo, Google and MSN are the search engines used most often by online shoppers and surfers but there are a few others that can offer good results.
I personally use Google AdWords and Yahoo only for my PPC. I do normally spend less with Yahoo and end with the same amount of traffic as Google.
3. Ease of Use and Internet Tools
Signing up, submitting your keywords and making payment arrangements should be a smooth process. Good pay per click search engines will make your comfort a priority.
Keyword tools are important for researching keyword phrases and suggesting targeted keywords for the most amount of sales resulting from clicks. A good pay per click search engine offers these tools for your use. After all, if people do not click, the company does not get paid.
4. Accessible and Accurate Reporting
You should be able to access reports anytime you like and receive updated information every time. Good pay per click search engines will make sure you are aware of how much you are spending on clicks.
5. Pricing
Some pay per click search engines are more expensive than others. Search engines that allow you to bid on keywords are probably the best ones to use but make sure the bids start low. Good pay per click search engines are competitively priced. Choose a search engine that fits your budget.
Do the homework before choosing your marketing venues. While marketing results are based mostly on the work you put into it, a good pay per click search engine will relieve some of the hassle and frustration as well as help you make a profit.

Point 2 is very important becasue if they have no traffic you will just be wasting your time that’s why Google is so popular albeit relatively costly compared to the smaller sites.
Caroline,
It is so true! Google does cost more to run pay per click on, but you can get a load of traffic. I have heard of people trying PPC on small engines becuase the click price was very low, but they never got any real decent traffic, so it was a waste of time.
Can you suggest a couple alternatives to Google, Yahoo, and MSN that might fit be categorized as one of the “few others that can offer good results”?
Thanks
Good to know about Google bringing in more traffic. I just started using Yahoo a couple of weeks ago for the first time. They sent me a coupon for $100 credit so I added another fifty and setup a few keywords. Now I need to figure out how to make the best of it. I received a pamphlet from Yahoo in the mail but haven’t even opened it yet. I’ll try Google next. Thanks for advice.

A waste of time and some money perhaps, but, if they have it to “spare”, it can be a helluva lot cheaper then “learning” with adwords…..know what I mean?
